About

Bio

Yorgos Papakarmezis, born in 1982 in Giannitsa, Greece, is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Athens, Greece. Central to his oeuvre is his unique approach to blending figurative elements, abstract gestures, and voluminous forms within a single composition, often rendered in black and white. This experimental confluence of mediums and forms exemplifies his quest to transcend the conventional distinctions between painting and sculpture.

At the heart of Papakarmezis’ explorations lies a deep fascination with the human condition and the intricate interplay between contemporary existence, identity, and the emotional spectrum. The artist’s proclivity for using animal figures, as symbolic representations of human attributes and struggles, adds a nuanced layer to his exploration. Through his meticulous pencil, charcoal, and ink drawings, as well as his expressive oil, acrylic, and gold leaf paintings, he delves into the very essence of emotions and psychological processes. His sculptures, crafted from a fusion of pvc, resin, wood, and found objects, further extend his inquiry into the tactile and three-dimensional realm, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate relationship between form and meaning.

Yorgos Papakarmezis has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Greece, Italy, Mexico and Turkey. His works have been acquired by private collections, both national and international.
